Biocontainment Laboratory Operations & Maintenance Training Course

This one-week course will be held at the University of Maryland at Baltimore Monday, January 28 - Friday, Feb. 1. It is co-hosted by the National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program (NBBTP) and the Middle Atlantic Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research (MARCE).

The NBBTP, housed at the NIH, is responding to the need for professional development for staff in biocontainment laboratories by providing short-course training opportunities. The training is geared towards operations and maintenance personnel, but biosafety, safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or management staff may also be interested.

Operations & Maintenance Certificate track topics will include:
· Introduction to Microbiology and Biosafety
· Introduction to Biosafety and Biocontainment
· Fundamentals of Laboratory Mechanics
· Laboratory Systems, Utilities and Maintenance I
· Laboratory Systems, Utilities and Maintenance II
· Troubleshooting Laboratory HVAC, Filtration and Utility Systems
· Continuity of Operations Planning

Biosafety & Biocontainment elective courses will include:
· Introduction to Sterilization and Disinfection
· Laboratory Commissioning and Certification
· Emerging Issues in Biosafety and Biocontainment for Operations
and Maintenance Personnel
