Training Programs

The MARCE sponsors a variety of training programs designed to edcuate and enhance the capabilities of MARCE researchers. These courses, including GMP, Bioinformatics, and Media Training, are offered periodically based on researchers's needs and requests. Watch the News section for upcoming training sessions and dates.

Bioinformatics

Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) offers Bioinformatics training sessions to MARCE researchers. The sessions typically last one day and are comprised of a mix of classroom-type lecture and hands-on use of Bioinformatics tools using the VBI-developed PathPort software system. Training sessions can usually be delivered at locations near the researchers' campus or research laboratory.

GMP

Sanofi Pasteur offers a GMP Training Course to MARCE participants. The course covers "CGMP and Quality Issues for Biopharmeceuticals" and includes a tour of the Sanofi Pasteur facility in Swiftwater, PA.

Media

George Washington's media training sessions for bioscientists in the MARCE include a media panel discussion, training section, scenario exercise, case study and mock news conference with taped performance evaluation.

BSL

With the increase in BSL-3 research, a comprehensive training focusing on the operations of these laboratories was needed. The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Environmental Health and Safety, and the Middle Atlantic Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases (MARCE) designed an interactive course consisting of both lectures and hands-on activities covering issues related to laboratory safety operations for BSL-3 laboratories.
